Just starting out and this was my first line that get me into collecting. Although its pricey, i found it very awesome and impressed how detailed and articulated they are. like most of the collectors, i was also left out when they released the early figures I want to ask your opinions about the value of the figures ten years from now. will they stay expensive and their value climb up thru the years or eventually they will decrease in value because of low demand or other factors like a new awesome DB line is created? lastly, based on the current releases, how complete do you think will they make this line? will they bother creating lesser known characters or stick to popular ones and stop right there?

First off, welcome to the board I dont think anyone can tell for sure what the future of this line will be, but I think there is a good future to it making characters as minor as dodoria and dabura (I hope so at least). As for the price of figures, I think guys who have been collecting the longest like Branjita and Adrenaline would know the most about how dragonball merchandise trends. Which brings up a question I have been meaning to ask for a long time, how was it like collecting for the 5 years or so when there wasn't any DB figures being released in the market??

Welcome! The value in this line would be difficult to estimate in ten years. The line could be still be going, to be honest. Demand has insanely increased this year, driving up the prices, so there's no indication that they will decrease any time soon. This line is THE line for Dragon Ball Z figures, though, and that'll stay for a long time. It depends on the demand. There's still quite a lot of characters that need to be released because the demand is there at the moment; Nappa, Tien, Yamcha, Majin Vegeta, and etc. (Raditz and Bardock are two of my top wants.) Tamashii was going to stop after Manga Super Saiyan Gohan but Bluefin told them the demand of the Western Market. (That's why I feel Bluefin should be in control of the line more so than Tamashii.) If you need help on collecting any of the figures, let us know. There's websites with great deals and eBay has a great Super Saiyan Vegeta alternative, albeit a bootleg. P.S. Are you the Legato from CBR?

I think there will still be a demand for the figures years from now. There's still a market for SBC, Irwin, Jakks, and other figures after all. I don't think they will make the line as complete as those I mentioned, but the fact that they're making the three Androids gives some hope since some of the recent lines like the Hybrids didn't even do that.

I will be shock if in the future there are better figures than the Figuarts line. It seems like over the years figures keep getting better and more expensive, but none the less I wished we would of gotten these when I was kid, because these are the best figures I've ever seen or dream of.

Unless they get reissued or replaced by a superior line of figures, I don't know why they would go down in price. As long as people continue to pay silly prices for them, they will continue to be expensive.

There hasn't ever really been anything like this in the DBZ line before from any manufacturer so it's hard to speculate. Hybrids are probably the closest. They were about $15 each when new I think, shot up to a lot of money quickly, and have remained kind of expensive.

I guess I'm one of the few collectors who thinks the Figuarts line is quite overrated. The only Figuarts I've bought have been gifts for other people. But it more stems from the fact that I just don't really have a fondness for articulated figures. I think the articulation takes away from the artistic value of the piece itself.
Figuarts Zero lines are more my thing, even if they're not quite to the level as most SCultures.

I can't be entertained by statues. They look nice but I get bored with static displays very fast.
I got into figures in the first place because of Tamashii's D-Arts Mega Man X figures. I got those figures because they were the most accessible thing on the market, as well as the best quality anyway for Mega Man pieces. When I discovered that the same company covered Dragon Ball Z, I decided to look into them too.
Scultures and Kujis and Zeros and all the rest are not appealing to me because for a similar (retail, not aftermarket) price, I can get a smaller figure with a LOT more options with what to do with it.

To each his own. I'm more into statue figures because I think of them as a piece of art from a skilled sculptor. The articulated figures may give you more posing options, but to me, the visual value from an art perspective is severely compromised because you have joints everywhere. Not to mention that you don't usually run into dumb flaws with statue figures that you do with articulated ones. In addition to this, the statue figures on average are cheaper than the articulated ones.

Every merchandise line, and in particular manufacturers of high-end articulated figures retain a formula which followed in the sense of supplying it's gathered fan base niche of the line with releases similar in every year. When a new Tamashii line-up is introduced, it is usually non exclusive. Only after the fan base and popularity for the niche of the market it intended for is gathered efficiently, the statues of the line-up is changed from a wide retail jp distribution, to being an exclusive to the Premium Bandai hobby shop. Which benefit Bandai sales, and help their profits, avoiding distributors profits cuts. As well provide better and faster sales, higher price tags, being that those releases are exclusives. The dbz line-up so far follow as - 2009(late) - 2010 - Piccolo, SSJ Goku, Gohan 2010 - SSJ Vegeta 2012 - Trunks, SSJ3 Goku, Cell 2013 - Vegeta, Frieza, Krillin 2014 - Goku, 18, 17, Broly 2015 - 16, ?, ? ~ What should we expect to come next? Other than Nappa which was exibit in end 2012 IIRC, Shenron exibit a bit after him. Vegito was an exibit recently, which different than other releases announcements from 2014, in the sense that those were appered in the Premuiem Bandai hobby shop before they were exibits. It might be an indication that Tamashii wanted to test out the reaction for the character, or that he need further developing, etc. As well the Tamashii poll for the dbz line-up was shown in end 2012, and so far after it, every character release, prototype, and rumor was from the poll.

I can see a time in which these figures aren't as valuable. When there's a new hot line of figures out and the Figuarts line is out of production, we may see a price drop. I remember a time when the Super Battle Collection was sold for a premium, but a newer and better line came along.

So from the list these are the characters who are possibly next to be released.
-Majin Boo -Vegito(Already has Prototype Figure) (Possibly Next) -Gogeta -Ultimate/Mystic Gohan -Raditz -Bardock -1st Form Frieza -1st Form Cell -Great Saiyman -Kid Goten & Kid Trunks -Captain Ginyu -Kid Goku -SS4 Goku -Nappa(Possibly) I personally would want Raditz & Nappa to be released and then Bardock and 1st Form Frieza as they go together.
