Okay, so I'm irritated a bit by the size of S.H. Figuarts figures and have been since they started Dragonball figures. I'm a fan of 1:6 Scale figures, ( Hot Toys, Medicom, Etc. ). So, that being said, unless Hot Toys ever decides to make some Dragonball figures, which would be fantastic, I have nothing other than the four Medicom figures on the Dragonball Z line to compare with my others. I don't like putting different scaled figures together. Putting a S.H. Figuarts Piccolo w/ a Hot Toys Iron Man, There's like a 7 Inch difference. It's really dumb to me, I don't know.

In my opinion they are the best size, not to compare but they are actually tall if you look at them next to the old jakks and irwin figures. 2nd, people already complain of space as it is. Just imagine how big broly would be if goku was 7 inches taller. I do agree that they are quite expensive, but this is a luxury. They put a lot of money in making them look straight-outta-DBZ.

I will admit, if Hot Toys picked up the 1/6 DB license, I would be all in. However, things would get expensive fast. I imagine a 1/6 line would price out like this: Regular Goku with smiling and angry heads, a pair of relaxed palms, pair of fists, pair of spirit bomb hands, kamehameha hands, an instant transmission hand, and a waving hand, cloth gi, pair of boots, cloth belt, and cloth wrist bands, and a Kamehameha effect piece with LED function. DBz Hot Toys base with craddle. - $249
$249 is the norm for Hot Toys. Now, with that money, lets call it $265 after shipping. You could buy the new SSGSS ( SSB) Goku, Golden Frieza, Ultimate Gohan, SS Gohan, Piccolo, SS Goku, and the extra $40 would either go to shipping each or you could snag a Vegitto.
So, most would say quality over quantity. But Figuarts is quality! They have a large catalog of Dragonball figures already, and there are figures HT would never touch, like Broly. He would easily be a $350-$450 figure. I'm good with that. After about 3 HT DBZ figures, you could own every Figuarts do date.

But, I have many problems with them. One, the joints are way to visible. I suppose you could say that I'm comparing figures in general to Hot Toys way too much, or perhaps I do have high expectations, but I just feel like I'm getting what I paid for when I get a Hot Toys figure. For instance, they have rubber material for the skin in most parts, far more accessories than figuarts, real cloth material clothing, and LED lights! You don't get this in Figuarts. And, as for the whole " Taking up space " thing, I suppose it's all on your point of view. I know some die-hard collectors who have rows after rows of 5" figures and it looks like a bloody mess. My taste is mostly 2-3 Hot Toys figures in one glass shelf, on their bases, usually even holding an accessory. I do plan on collecting Medicom Figures because they will fit along with the pattern I'm going for, but I am hesitant because there are only 4 Medicom figures on the Dragonball line! I agree, the figuarts are very high quality, though not as high as Hot Toys. They also look very good on shelves, but as my personal view and opinion, I think that once you start a 1:6 scale figure collection, you can't necessarily restart a whole new shelf of 1:12 scale figures without the whole setup looking a tad out of place. I suppose I'm just not sure what to do yet...

You can't really expect Hot Toys quality out of figures that are in a completely different price range. You're comparing figures that usually retail for $40 to figures that are $200+
If I go out and buy a Marvel Legends figure, I don't expect it to be as good as my Figuarts.
