Hey guys. I'm new here, and enjoy DBZ figures immensely. I have a question about the Chinese distributed Medicos Super Figure Art Collection Super Saiyan Son Goku. I recently received my authentic version 1 copy through a Chinese distributor, and I'm a 100% certain that it isn't the bootleg, but the quality of it is disappointing. There's incorrectly assembled parts on the figure, so some of the hair parts aren't assembled straight, so there's big gaps in between some of the pieces. There's also a dark spot on his nose, and a smudge in the paint job on his hand. The one I bought was far cheaper priced than the other ones I've seen. Irregardless, it's still a nice figure. I was simply wondering if anyone knows if they sometimes sell quality rejected versions through the non-Japanese distributors. I've considered this possibility, but I don't even know if they do that or not. Does anyone know anything about this? Seen here: On this one, you can kinda see the dark spot on his nose: There's also a gap in his bangs. ![]()

Did the box have the Toei sticker?

No it didn't, but I don't believe the Chinese distributed ones do anyway.
And I know what the Bootleg looks like (it's a resin, like many other bootlegs), so I know it's not that.
If it is a bootleg, I would absolutely cry. I blew $90 on it, which is only slightly above original retail price, but it still sucks.

Hi, Please look, the knock-offs versions are on the right side. Bootleg was made in a very high-quality manner, resin imation as well. The knock off is missing the Toei cat sticker on the back.

I wish so much that the bootleg version was inexpensive. I love that figure, but I want one for less than $30 and that just won't happen. It's so hard to tell the bootleg version from the real version, and the price difference between them is so minimal.
Ketchup, does the figure have a strong smell? My bootleg Ichiban Kuji Shenron does, but I'm not sure if the legit version does or not. I may be incorrectly assuming that the same bootlegger may have produced both products despite being different brands since the packaging for the bootleg Shenron is also very legitimate looking just like this Medicos.
Is it made from mildly flexible vinyl? Or is it hard plastic? Shenron is vinyl, and if I take a deep breath as I walk by it, I regret it.

This is extremely disappointing news. But thanks anyway guys. I was hoping it wasn't, but what can you do? I'm more mad that I spent $90 on it. Oh well. BranjitaIt's hard PVC, just like the real figure, and it doesn't smell. I'll probably make a video review of the Bootleg, just so others don't make the same mistake I did. Afterward, I'll probably just fix up the paint job, and perhaps try to re-assemble the hair straight. It's still an incredible figure, it just sucks that it's not real. When life hands you lemons, you make lemonade, right?

Since I'm on my computer and looking at the pics M5 posted... it seems like the easiest way to tell legit vs. bootleg is that the bootleg's ki auras by the feet aren't completely transparent. And... unless you have a closeup of them (since the box blocks them) that isn't too useful unfortunately. It sucks to have to rely on a sticker.
Then again, the bootleg looks pretty badass anyway.

It is pretty badass. Either way, it's still a cool figure. If you can find it for cheap, I'd recommend buying it. It looks real from more than 5 feet away. I've also seen the resin copy of it, and was wondering if they sold just the base. The base is completely different on the resin copy, and far more interesting than the authentic ones. It's actually sculpted to look like the ground. I ran into a guy on Amazon that had the same problems I did with mine with his Version 2, and because of this, he gave it a 3/5. I just told him that it's unfortunate that his is probably a bootleg too, but he spent over 200 on his, so I feel that I got lucky.

Sorry about the double post, but I just wanted to say that I ended up taking the lemon that I got and made lemonade. I painted the figure to have blood on it. He looks pretty cool:

You know, 90$ is not even that bad, this figure Japanese market value is about twice then that.

I agree. I'm pretty sure some guy that I talked to on US Amazon got a Ver. 2 Bootleg of this for $240. So sucks to be him.
$90 is not that bad, it's actually pretty cheap, and I didn't even have to pay shipping. But it still sucks because that was $90. And considering that I lost my job three days after I purchased it, it's kinda disheartening at this time.

I saw a genuine standard version being sold for 12,000 yen + shipping a while ago. The acrylic version asking price was about 22,000 yen.

Hate that it wasn't the real McCoy, but at least you kept a positive outlook and even added some pretty cool details! Nice work!

I just bought a $90 pre-shaped canvas. I'll make what I want of it. I want to change up the base, and maybe make it like the base on the Resin knock-off. That base looks like the ground, and it's sweet!

Bummer about it being a bootleg, but now you can make it a one-of-a-kind piece! The blood looks great, and a custom base would be badass! I think it would look really cool if you used some thin acrylic rods and make it look like rocks are rising around him and maybe add on to the ki aura.

I was totally thinking about that. I was also thinking about making some type of yellow transparent pieces for an aura that would attach to the base. However, they would be completely removable in case I wanted to display it without them.

Some notable differences between the genuine vs. bootleg versions that I observed from these pics: - Original version has a straight, in-your-face stare while the bootleg one seems to appear to be looking slightly downward (although this can be attributed due to the placement of the two figures
- Original version has a yellowish overall hue to his hair while the bootleg has an overall orange hue thereby lending the original a distinct color contrast. the same applies to the translucent/acrylic variants too. Original is distinctively yellow while the fake has an orange hue.
- Similarly, the body on the original has a pale flesh tone opposed to a reddish tone on the bootleg.
- Original ver. has subtle weathering paint app on thigh compared to the more pronounced finish on the bootleg.
- Ki auras: In the original, the first variant(solid hair) shares an almost similar color to it's fake cousin. Whereas in the acrylic variant, the original sports a total yellow coloring with no orange shading whatsoever unlike the bootleg.
- Ki Auras again: In both variants, the original has striking, translucent auras but the bootleg have milky or opaque ones as hinted by Branjita.
- Box: The original is slightly taller than the bootleg. I can't see any lens distortion to render such a drastic difference in height and both have been placed on an even, flat surface. Also, the black bar printed down on the back of the box for the specs and legal info is thicker in the original than the bootleg. This is done to accommodate the Toei sticker which is yet another well known way to spot a fake.
- As Ketchup originally noted, the original comes with a white backdrop on the inside of the box while the bootleg makes do with a blue one.
I'm sure you guys must have observed these differences but I just thought of summarizing it up. Hate that it wasn't the real McCoy, but at least you kept a positive outlook and even added some pretty cool details! Nice work! He shoulda got the Desktop McCoy instead!

Oh man, this is just pissing into the wind anyway, just look for the Toei sticker in the back of the box, and don't buy from stores in China anyway. I think that the bootleg box is just smashed, not that there is height difference between the bootleg to the original.

burdocksan, just curious, I found a seller that seems to be selling a Ver.1 Medicos Goku (based on the white backdrop color in the pictures). I'm kinda hesitant due to the fact that it is a Chinese distributor (I heard that mainly Japanese distributors sell it...), and not really sure about the reliability of the website. What do you think?? Link of the distributor/figure
