I'm not ready to make a 2014 collection topic, but today was awesome, as I finally completed my entire collection of the entire series! As far as I know... I have it all!
I have reasons for everything I own. If you're bored or looking for an education in DB DVD collecting, you should read this.
Okay, so my collection goal was to buy everything at maximum quality, maximum awesomeness, but without spending thousands of dollars. I'm not well off enough to be able to afford the one thing I couldn't afford--the Dragonball Z Dragon Boxes. The Dragon Boxes are 4:3 and one of the only two current ways to have the complete series in English. I settled on the orange bricks, at 16:9, because they can be had for about $150 for the full set of 9, while the full set of 7 Dragon Boxes are about $700.
Anyway, so here's what I have for the series.
-the 4:3 blu-ray Level Sets, discontinued after 1.2, but the best quality DBZ has ever been.
-full set of DBZ orange bricks, 16:9
-full set of DB blue bricks, 4:3
-full set of DBGT lime/yellow bricks, 4:3, includes the only DBGT movie
-my favorite thing ever, the Rock the Dragon box set, 4:3, it has DBZ episodes 1-53 and DBZ movies 1-3. These are the episodes and movies before Funimation dubbed the series (in other words, no raspy voice kid Gohan, no fruity Zarbon). It's the Ocean cast, or what I like to refer to as the Pioneer dub, whether it's accurate or not. These are the episodes that were on Toonami in the late 90s after school was over and the music, voices, everything are so entertaining and awesome! My favorite item in my collection! The movies however are a bit, disappointing. They are actually censored and strangely have different dialogue in certain places than the old Pioneer dvds, the quality is also not as good as the old Pioneer dvd movies.
And here's my completed movie collection!
-all four DB movies, this is what just arrived in the mail, I assume they are 4:3. I got this despite it clashing with the rest of my collection because it's the only way I could think of to get all 4 movies without them taking up a lot of space or money. 1 shipping charge = cheaper than 2 to 4.
-All 3 old Pioneer movies 1-3, I was originally going to sell these, but when I saw the Rock the Dragon versions were inferior, I decided to keep them.
-All of the DBZ movies in blu-ray format! This was something I was willing to spend a little more to obtain. I managed to get them all for less than $20 each, which was a major ordeal, as they normally sell for more.
-I designed a cover with Birusu on the cover and I burned myself a personal copy of everything that has never been dubbed in English onto several dvds. First of all, no, you can't have a copy, I'm not going to be a bootlegger.
But I have the fire safety and traffic safety DB specials, the overview special of DBZ, episode of Bardock, the original version of eradicate the saiyan, the remake eradicate the super saiyan, the telephone interactive video game, yo! son Goku and friends return, battle of gods, and several other very minor specials and commercials associated with DBZ.
So happy I have it all!
