Alright, another nooby question inbound. Has anyone ever had trouble with Tamiya Acrylic? Whenever I try to paint something, it dries so quick I can barely even have enough time to spread it. Then it becomes this peeling gooy substance. I don't know what's wrong. The paint isn't bad, I just bought it. It's happening to my flat black and pink as well. I used Model Masters and Vallejo on the same figure and they worked normally. I thought to add a little bit of thinner and that didn't do much either... hey bro,i got this problem too,so u shld get a thinner thin the paint and just paint a coat and let it dry,u needa keep moving the paints or it will dry

Thanks for all the help guys. I took a trip to my local hobby shop this morning and grabbed some Acrylic Retarder. It solved the problem perfectly!

Has anyone seen the Medicos SAS Kinnikuman or other figures by them? I've got some of the JoJo figures, they are fantastic and great quality similar to Figuarts and others. The JoJo figures are scaled comparably to Figuarts and some other 6" figures. While looking for pictures comparing the Figuarts Kinnikuman to DBZ, I stumbled onto the SAS ones. I was wondering if they might work for a Tien or other customs?

Personally, I think his torso looks odd, but you might be able to fix that.

I want to say 1andonly5711 used a Medicos Buffalo Man as a base for his latest Nappa (which turned out really good and the height looked pretty good too). I keep looking for them on ebay but they seem a bit pricey.

Yeah, after looking more it seems like most are sold out and only available on the secondary market. That kinda kills my interest a bit. Not so sure I want to spend that much just to rip apart and customize them.

Has anyone ever used Milliput? I've heard good things about it, but I wasn't sure if it was good enough for sculpting on figures. For some reason the shipping on Aves.com is super expensive for where I live, and I know my local Michael's has Milliput.

I haven't used it, but it's epoxy putty and should be just fine.
If you live in the US though, I'd just get a small package of Apoxie Sculpt or Apoxie Clay off ebay for about $12 or get a pound of Apoxie Sculpt off Amazon for about $20 with free shipping (if you buy something else for $15 that qualifies for free shipping). It only comes in a few colors on Amazon, but it's much cheaper. I buy from aves.com because I am very particular and only like working with the pink Sculpt and it isn't available anywhere else for a better price than directly from Aves with their rather high cost of shipping.

Product recommendation...if you're looking for a sealant that protects paint and gives a dull appearance pick up a bottle of Testors Dullcote Lacquer. www.ebay.com/itm/Testors-1160X-Dullcote-Lacquer-1-3-4-oz-Clear-Flat-Overcoat-/191511831796?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c96fea4f4I've gone through numerous sealants looking for the right flat effect (Model Masters flat clear acrylic which is still good for sealing paint, a couple bottles of matte nail polish which looked great but chipped quickly) and this is the stuff I've been looking for. After it's completely dry it gives the surface an almost chalky appearance. Here are a few example pics...this is an SS Goku face with the lacquer. I wanted to see if it would get rid of the glossy plastic look (and it absolutely did). Here's a spare set of Figuarts Vegeta armor. It doesn't really need it but up close it has a bit of a glossy appearance (and sadly no paint, I included the Android Saga Vegeta to show what the armor looks like when it's painted). With the lacquer applied it gives off the illusion that it has paint and I think it helps it a lot. Finally, my most recent custom, Figuarts Gohan in his Goku gi. on the left you have the figure at 80% completion with no lacquer or shading...on the right it has shading and the entire outfit is doused in lacquer. I laid it on a bit thick mainly to protect the paint but also to see how flat the figure would look and the pic speaks for itself. I can't recommend the lacquer enough, if you want a flat chalky appearance (that IMO makes figures look 10X better) on something you have then pick this up.

That's pretty cool. Do you have the dull lacquer on Gohan's arms?

Unfortunately no...the SDCC Gohan I was working with only had one set of hands. If it had the complete set I would've made everything flat but Gohan (the member) wanted to be able to use the hands from his SDCC Gohan on the figure and I didn't want the arms to look flat when the other hands looked glossy. There's a good chance I'll try this custom again with another damaged SDCC Gohan I have and that one will have lacquer on the skin...if I try it that is.

Anyone have any suggestions on what heads would be best to use in customizing Master Stars piece figures? Any help would be much appreciated.

So can this dullcote be used on acrylic paint or does it have to be used on lacquer based paints?
