Action figures come in fixed scales to allow compatibility within (and sometimes between) toy ranges.
In the US, we often refer to figures as being 5 inch or 6 inch scale. However, most model kits have always been sized in terms of fractional scale (a ratio) such as 1:12 or 1/12.
Did you know that 1:12 scale and 6 inch scale are the same scale? That does not necessarily mean the figures will scale perfectly with one another, but sometimes you will get lucky and they will.
In many other countries, figures are measured in centimeters. But how do those scales and sizes compare to each other? (Note: CM were rounded to the nearest 1/4.)
Ratio | Inches | Centimeters | Example Figures
| ~1:72*
| 1"
| 2.5 cm
| AB/Irwin mini figures, Irwin Capsule figures, DB "Ramen" model kits
| ~1:64*
| 1.75"
| 4.5 cm
| Mini Figure Series (MFS) bottle cap figures, FUNimation gumball machine figures
| ~1:48*
| 2"
| 5 cm
| vintage keshi (rubber eraser) figures, Soul of Hyper Figuration
| 1:32
| 2.125"
| 5.5 cm
| AB/Bandai/Irwin/Kidz Biz mini figures
| 1:25 | 2.5" | 6.25 cm
| AB Combat Sets, Giochi Preziosi 2 figure sets, some Bandai Imagination gashapons, Bandai America 1995 DB, many of the Ultra Figus/Navarette figures
| ~1:20*
| 3.5"
| 9 cm
| Shodo Neo, HG, some Hachette, some Legend of the Saiyan, some Frieza Force
| 1:18 | 3.75" | 9.5 cm
| Bandai America Ultimate Collection figures, Irwin Secret Saiyan Warrior, some of the heads of Adverge figures, (this is the GI Joe and Star Wars figure scale FYI)
| 1:16 | 4" | 10 cm
| Bandai Hybrid, some Bandai Real Works, some Bandai High Spec Coloring Figure (HSCF), some of the heads of Adverge figures
| 1:15 | 5" | 12.75 cm
| most Irwin and Jakks DBZ figures, some Bandai HSCF, DBZ Bandai Super Battle Collection, DeAgostini, Editions Atlas, Corriere dello Sport, Bandai Dragonball Evolve, some of the heads of Chara Puchi figures, AB Super Guerriers, Giochi Preziosi articulated figures
| 1:12 | 6" | 15.25 cm
| Jakks DBGT figures, DBGT Bandai SBC, SH Figuarts, Figuarts Zero, Bandai Dragon Stars, some of the heads of DWC and WCF figures, Banpresto The Figure Collection (Chouzoushu), various Banpresto figures from the tire period of Battle of Gods, some Banpresto SCultures
| 1:10 | 7" | 17.75 cm
| Some of the IF Labs and Jakks DB figures (Yamcha, Mai, Launch, kid Krillin, etc.), DB Academy model kits, Banpresto Pichi Pichi, some High Quality Deluxe (HQ DX), some FES, some Blood of Saiyans, Resolution of Soldiers (NOT Grandista), Super Warriors Battle Retsuden, Banpresto Match Makers, some Banpresto SCultures
| 1:9 | 8" | 20.25 cm
| some HQ DX, some FES, some Blood of Saiyans
| ~1:8*
| 10"
| 25.5 cm
| IF Labs Movie Collection (size varies between 9 and 11 inches tall mostly), Figuarts EX, Master Stars, Super Legend Battle Figure, Resolution of Soldiers Grandista
| 1:6 | 12" | 30.5 cm
| Vinyl garage kits are often this size, Super Master Stars
| 1:4 | 18" | 45.75 cm
| X-Plus, AB 16 inch figures are approximately this scale
|
* = these are approximations... finding data that backs these numbers up is difficult and not something I can find.If you have any data to add to the table, please do. I don't collect (or know) most of the more recent figures that are larger than 6 inch scale.

Updated thanks to Stanley Loskot. I also formatted the table to look better.

What scale is figure rise standard? It’s a mess. Piccolo and Krillin scale well with 1/12 figures, but the others make no sense. Trunks, Goku and Piccolo are the same height, Vegeta is way too tall for 1/12 figures.
Figure rise Freeza pod and Vegeta pod scale well too.

Anyone know how Nendoroid Arale scales with SH Figuarts? Near the end there’s a comparison with DB Goku. Looks like her head might look a bit weird but they’re about the same height.

Hi guys does anyone know which figure lines scale the best with the bandai shodo line (sentai and kamen riders)? I thought about shodo neo, but they are quite a bit smaller than the other shodo lines.
I saw there are a few lines that are similar in scale I saw the DB Hybrid line which I thinks is very similar in size and DB ultimate collection (the one with shenron or porunga's pieces) but I'm not sure.
Does anyone have them and can tell me if they scale correctly (if you do have a pic it's better)? If anyone know any other lines on 3.9/4" let me know please.
Thanks to everyone!

lysk1 Can you see the pics in this thread? dragonballfigures.com/thread/688/scale-comparison-different-lines-figures If so, they should help you. I have a Hybrid SS Gohan in one pic as well as a Real Works (I think those were called Original Collection in the US...? I might be remembering wrong) Vegeta in the same image. I haven't ever followed Shodo closely enough to know much about them. I do own a Shodo or Shodo Neo Ultra Instinct Goku I could take a comparison pic with if it would be helpful. I still have some Real Works figures and that Hybrid SS Gohan. Most of the Hybrid figures aren't that much bigger than SS Gohan as far as I am aware. The adult characters are probably about the height of the Burger King (pewter colored) Vegeta next to SS Gohan. The only thing I have to caution you about is the fact that Hybrid figures are fragile. They are often broken when you buy them used if the previous owner actually played with it. This is the image in particular that I think would help you

Branjita Thank you it's very clear now, I knew about hybrid in fact a few years ago I had a hybrid goku ssj 3 but his arms and feet were extremely loose, I thought it was just my copy but I read pretty much everywhere that they are very very fragile.
At the end I decided to go for the ultimate collection, I found a couple of them (saiyan armor trunks and Cell) in a thrift shop here and I picked them up and I really like them they scale perfectly, I saw that they aren't very look after in the community but I do like them! I might add some Irwin 1/18 to the collection too! If you do know any other 3.75" to 4" line let me know.

lysk1 I might be wrong, but I believe several of the "Magnet Action" figures would scale with what you're trying to match. The Tien, Bulma, and Yamcha only from this image. I know the Goku, Krillin, and Roshi are too large for you. It is also possible that you'd be happy with some of the characters from Unifive Posing Figure line. Weirdly, the best pics I can easily find are from this Ali Express listing: www.aliexpress.com/i/3256802176059538.html?gatewayAdapt=4itemAdaptPretty weird considering those figures are 10+ years old. I have the Yamcha in this photo if you need any comparison photos. www.flickr.com/photos/blacksmithst/5154145014

Branjita this is amazing thank you!! Yamcha Bulma and Tien are exactly what I wanted to add since they are missing in the ultimate collection, I will check for them.

lysk1 make sure to do some diligent research regarding their size. I've never owned them, so I'm not positive of their exact size. The Goku and Krillin are basically 5 inch scale compared to other stuff I own (and have created). The scale you're trying to collect is pretty uncommon, so you're not likely to find a lot of resources or other collectors who focus on that scale. It's going to be difficult to research. You'll definitely like this post by The Great Saiyaman nearly 10 years ago: dragonballfigures.com/post/48452/thread

A quick update for anyone who is interested in collecting this size as I am doing. dragonballfigures.com/post/38954 I found this post from The Great Saiyaman which is quite old but it gives an amazing scale of the figure lines Popy Magnet Action and the Unifive Great Goku Battle. I'm currently doing more research for these figures. If anyone have them and want to add something it's appreciated.
