No need to be sorry! Always bring up an old thread if one exists instead of making a new one!

I do believe they were leftovers, more figures made than vehicles to pack them with. They were already released individually in... Series 5 I think? That series had yellow hair, then they released the gold repaints of the same molds with the vehicles later on. Were these the only three released this way? I remember the packaging popping up, but I already had them from the vehicle play-sets I believe, so I didn't really pay much attention to them at the time. There was a Yardrat Goku prototype Irwin that never went into production, but someone actually purchased the prototype when it was sold on ebay. I distinctly remember that. (Maybe it was Soda? I saw him mentioned earlier in this thread, is he around on the newer board? I haven't talked to him in many, many years. Had his phone number at one point, but that was so long ago..)
That prototype was cool, if they had actually produced some of it and sold it at the end, I would still be interested in it even now.

Oh, that prototype was Bomber Jacket SS Goku, not Yardrat Goku. Soda did buy one of the two. I forgot who owns the other one...

That's right, Bomber Jacket Goku. I knew it was a variant that never went into production. Too bad one of those never cropped up in that Collect them all set.

Ya I'm pretty sure they were done after Irwin went Bankrupt. Probably the Chinese factory just had Irwin's product and packaging left over and slightly changed the insert card and sold them. That's all I can figure out but I might be worng. Never bought any of them. Could have been a last gasp of Irwin's owners to make some money off dead stock but again these are just theories. But why did irwin go bankrupt? Their products are good sellers even now Keep in mind that the ending of the Irwin toyline was a bunch of gimmicky toys and repaints, so I'd say they didn't have much of a budget to work with at that point.

thesupernamekian I think you're actually referring to Jakks. Irwin went bankrupt and sold the rights to Jakks during a time period where they were making some of their best figures (Series 10 and 11 figures... Yamcha in yellow suit, Bulma in green, SS3 Goku, etc.). Jakks was the company that did endless repaints. Irwin was probably more guilty of gimmicky toys though thanks to Super Saiyan Warriors and a few of the other figures that were pretty awful.

I was referring to the vehicle sets Irwin released where all of the figures were just slight repaints of previous releases, those light-up energy-blasting figures which reused parts from previous releases, etc..

I see people confuse the legit figures with the bootlegs that used similar packaging, so I made a side-by-side comparison image.

The one on the right looks more like Blanka (Street fighter) than Goku, lol
