The mods could always use this as a thread for the figure itself like the other Figuarts, there's an idea! seems best to leave all the discussion, change the first post to include official images, and update the title to "SDCC/Galeria Namek/Go Kanji Goku". Question....if this figure makes its way onto sites like Toyzinthebox, BBTS, etc, will they jack up the price based off of Ebay sales? Generally amazon, Toyz, and BBTS follow the retail price. That being said, I doubt they'll even get the MexiGoku in stock to sell at retail. I've personally only seen SDCC go through third party sellers. amazon used to be a great source for the SDCC exclusives...now, hardly the case. It should be interesting to see if TITB gets the exclusive, they may provide the best option. not sure if they will since they're fairly new. I imagine BBTS will go the gouging route.

I'm happy I'm gonna get Namek Goku (if I understood it right lol), but dissapointed I'm not gonna get a repainted SS3 Goku never know, they might surprise everyone and make an advanced color SS3 Goku one day. It could be a pretty great figure it they updated the skin tone and gave it the same colors seen on the Figuarts Zero EX SS3 Goku.

he lacks proper perspective. He seems to think people will notice his customs more if he posts in this thread, when the truth is everyone still sees his work as it's posted right along with everything else on this forum (assuming people cling to the "Recent Posts" link like I do). He makes enough customs to justify having his own thread. I happen to need this thread...I'm semi-retired and rarely make customs I feel are worth posting (minor repaints and what not). I used to make enough customs to have my own thread but now I'm down to one or two serious customs in a year, so this thread is necessary for someone like me since this thread is mainly for singular customs as opposed to a consistent string of them. 1andonly makes so much that he needs a thread. really simple as that.

So, what explains those reference pics then? This is all a bit confusing since there are 50 shades to him from googling! it's really tricky to name one definitive palette for any form. The anime was handled by multiple studios and unfortunately this resulted in numerous palettes being used. www.kanzenshuu.com/animation-styles/I tend to stick with promotional material or stills from anything made past Battle of Gods as it seems the colors are more consistent these days. I know some people don't like the blue/purple combo but I don't mind viewing this as Goku's default palette. ...but it's hard to say what palette must be used for the SS form. A lot of material features the SS form giving so much light output that it makes the gi appear yellow...and then in BoG the lighting only makes a subtle difference (this was not used in the film but it's the best look at the SS palette used).

So how in the eff did people work around that? I believe I'd seen one dude with 4 or five? It had something to do with people buying and bringing multiple tickets which gave them more reservations. --- didn't see this posted here. I'm liking it more and more. It's almost like an updated version of the old SBC Goku with the nearly red gi.

I'll just say my dad has been in the hospital for two separate stays in the past month. won't say more than that, I don't want to derail the thread. Just wait for SDCC. That's gonna blow us all away. I don't know what they have planned but they said it's something big. I really can't imagine anything bigger than what we've been getting so far. 5 figures from one movie in the last few months. I'm calling Nappa and Majin Vegeta as two possible reveals and Saiyan/Namek Goku, Cell Saga Vegeta, or Cell Saga Trunks as exclusive. I'm still looking forward to it. I'm not sure if they'll have more reveals but the displays will certainly be exciting.

(I feel a little weird having any excitement right now considering my current situation...won't go into the details...but...)
It's so great to see all of this. Jaco...it certainly isn't a bad figure but I wish they had made a Tien in his new outfit instead. but...wow. this is some mind blowing stuff.

Got something big today. Before I go... I may have misread, but does this mean u have a spare SDCC SS1 Gohan head? I currently have an SDCC Gohan with only the SS2 head. Not a major issue cuz I display it with the SS2 head, but still, 100% and all that, haha. that's pretty much what I was left with. I'll send you a PM.

I was sure my collection wouldn't be 100% complete for a long time and I didn't want to hunt down another Trunks and SDCC Gohan. Getting everything in one lot was too much to pass up. now I just need to get Vegetto and the manga Gohan and I'll be caught up.

Got something big today. Before I go any further I need to post this pic. First...I purchased the Trunks box in 2014 mainly to get a box for my Datong Trunks. I had absolutely no intention of using it for anything else. Second...a few customizing mishaps left with me an SDCC Gohan without the SS2 hair or the right shoulder part (losing it felt like a soul punch). Some may remember my request for the part I had in my sig. It was an absurd request but crazier things have happened, I figured it couldn't hurt to have the request out. Eventually I gave up on it. A few weeks later I came across this eBay listing that just happened to have a spare set of SDCC Gohan shoulder parts (felt like another soul punch when I saw it). Out of frustration I decided to contact the seller to see if he had another set. Why not? Crazier things have happened. Unfortunately he didn't but it turns out the listing had been bought twice and neither buyer paid. Excitement set in. At first I wanted to reserve the Gohan shoulder parts but something possessed me to ask for the entire lot (in hindsight, a good choice). After a few days of discussion we agreed on a price ($400, what it was originally going to go for). To sweeten the deal I offered to send the payment as a gift (a pretty big gamble I was willing to take, one I'm happy to say paid off in the end). Now that I've opened everything up it turns out the spare shoulder parts actually go to Piccolo but since I also received a complete SDCC Gohan I was able to put the new one into the old box. It seems the SS Goku and Piccolo are also the first editions which is an unexpected surprise.

I won't say it's impossible as if it's a fact but I will say in my experience it's been close to impossible (I strive to keep articulation intact and Figuarts joints have become my main issue with customs).
With shoulder, elbow, and knee joints you can shave or sand down the part that provides movement (the disk peg with the metal inside) to reduce the friction between the plastic but it isn't a perfect method. It can make the arms or legs loose and paint can still be easily removed since the parts are so closely attached (plus most paint chips off easily since the joints are made of hard plastic).
Painting ball joints (mainly those found in the thighs) simply isn't happening due to the design. If you sand the thigh joints at all they no longer fit in the thigh sockets and the legs will be permanently ruined. Paint the joints and seal them and the ball joint friction will peel the paint every time. Others may give different answers but IMO the only viable method is to take colored joints from another figure that has the right colors you want, mix paint to match the colored joints and apply it to the arms/legs/outfit. Sadly that's a very wasteful and expensive method, one that makes it difficult to customize (I have to abandon at least half of the custom ideas I come up with due to the joint issue). Unfortunately there is no perfect method. You have the option of ignoring the issues and doing what you can but that's entirely up to you.

As long as the paint is completely dry you shouldn't have any problems. I've used it many times since posting that on both plastic and acrylic surfaces and I haven't had one problem (if I had I would have made a point to bring it up here). Should have said this earlier...the dullcote must be mixed thoroughly or it won't be flat when it dries.
