i'm not sure which section to put this in haha. i guess this is a more general topic. cause not all of you are strictly db collectors. and this is about how people can be tools and what do. i guess idk pls
OK SO your friends, your family, your significant other, your pets, your therapist, that weird guy you don't know who added you on skype & you accepted cause why the hell not… how do they feel about your hobby & you spending money on "this kinda stuff"??
i mean most of my friends have similar interests.. that's how we became friends~ but not all of my friends are so similar. and not my family haha… goD
what brought this on was my friend saying to me "idk how you can spend all this money on toys" & my other friend & his gf broke up today over his batman collection lmao ; - ; wtf
so tell me!!! do your homies get on your case?

Most of the people I know either think it's cool or don't care. None of my IRL friends are collectors, but they are into similar stuff, so I guess it doesn't bother them

Most of my friends don't care. I know people that collect, but I really only have two friends that do. Only one really close friend. We bro out about toys and go to conventions all the time together. My other friend I constantly talk to about toys as well, just don't hang out with him much.
My mother is very supportive. My father and sister don't care much, but do get me figures occasionally. My girlfriend doesn't get me figures or anything, but she thinks my collecting hobby is cute.
I'm very confident and open about collecting. I generally don't get any negative reactions.

Well i got into collecting because growing up my father collected baseball, football, basketball cards, Marvel, DC, Lady Death, Spawn, Comics & Figures as well. He even was actually into Pokemon and Yugioh with me and my brothers My father always took care of his figures, comics, cards and he still does till this day. As a kid collecting Pokemon my dad would buy plastics and tell us to take care of your cards so that people would see you know how to take care of your things and so that they could be worth more in the future. When I started collecting Dbz figures I always opened them and played with them and sometimes brokem but as I got older I started to take care of my stuff like my dad taught me. My father always supported me collecting and so did my family. My friends always thought it was cool my dad collected figures and cards. Sometimes I would bring them over to show my dad's collection & even now my close guy friends think it cool but I never been one to care what people thought. My wife always tells me I'm a nerd for collecting and I always tell her I'm a big kid at heart! She never minds when I buy any figure as long as I don't go overboard but we all know when we see something DBZ related WE FEEL SO EXCITED!!!!!!

My mom likes it and my sister doesn't really care one way or the other. The air conditioner repair man a couple of weeks ago thought it was cool lol.
I don't have any "in person" friends that I know of who are toy collectors. Any time I rarely have somebody over, they always really like to look at them all as a group. I think a lot has to do with how you have them displayed. I usually get something like "whoa, how'd you get started collecting these?" and I explain "I was a big fan of dragonball in high school and I never got tired of it, so I've collected ever since". I haven't had any negative comments so far, but I also don't have a lot of people over... and choose my friends wisely haha.

You guys like my collection....I think haha
My wife doesn't mind as long as I don't spend income on it. Which is why I buy and resell to make money to buy more parts, apoxie etc. She thinks I'm talented at customizing, but will get annoyed if I spend too much time doing it. She does like to mention that if I sold my collection, it could be a great down-payment on a house, but I tell her "it's all I have" as far as material things and it's true. She even let me put the armoire in our bedroom at our previous place lol She has no interest in it overall, though.
My brothers think it's awesome, mainly because they have their own collections (smaller and boxed up) I took our collecting desires to a new level. My dad never paid any attention to it and my mom didn't mind when I lived at home, and always wanted to take pictures, but whenever she got mad at me, it was the first insult lol "go buy some more men" ...........

Adrenaline "go buy some more men" lmao! My mom doesn't like and thinks it's silly to waste money on toys. She also realizes that I'm really into it so she doesn't harp on it. She initially wondered why I got a DB tattoo but after a couple days she appreciated that it was very well done and that, like my other tattoo (which she paid for), it's something I love. My brother likes to see my collection when he visits and I send him pictures of all of my new purchases. Before he moved away he had a massive Warhammer army he painted along with handmade land and broken cityscapes so there is really nothing negative he can say about my DB collection . My aunt also likes to see my new figures but all she can think about is how much money I'll make when I sell them >< As for friends, some think it's cute since I get so passionate when I talk about figures but my best friend in particular thinks I'm crazy and wasting my money. He at least tries to be interested when he comes over though, which I appreciate. I got another friend of mine to start watching DB because of how much she loved my figures haha. She gets almost as excited as me when I get new ones and send her the pictures I also have a pretty huge wine stopper collection which gets no hate whatsoever. My mom bought most of them and everyone I know well picks me up some when they travel or see them out. I'll post the pics of them one of these days.

"She thinks I'm talented at customizing, but will get annoyed if I spend too much time doing it" totally get you on this Adrenaline haha sometimes I'm like "ok just give me 15-20 minutes tops because I have to sculpt this and that and then I'll be back" and I end up spending half an hour or so haha. Sometimes she's gotten a bit annoyed so that's why I try to compensate her with the time but she's very supportive as well, as long as I don't spend too much money. I also buy and re sell stuff; last week I sold most of my Sota SF figures! (I only kept my favorites); I got a great amount of money for them so I was able to buy 18, a rotary base I needed and kept like 80% of the money I got. Before I got married my mom was very supportive, she enjoyed seeing me in my room arranging/posing my figures haha, she just thought it was a nice hobby. My father didn't pay much attention to it, but whenever he went to my room he was like "whoa! you got more figures? wow! this one's nice" he also liked watching me customizing haha. My brother used to be into DBZ but he's 30 and he's focused on partying and being a Barney Stinson kinda guy haha so everytime I showed him new figures I got, he was like "huh that's cool..." haha or when I showed him my customs he was like "you're sick..." thinking I was crazy for spending my free time on this lol anyway I guess my family is supportive in general and my friends think I'm kinda geeky for this haha but I love figures and I don't see myself not buying new ones for at least 5 more years or until Tien and Yamcha get made

Well the biggest headache I used to get about collecting was from my girlfriend, telling me I should spend my money on something wiser like a trip or so. She gave up in the end and actually started supporting me. She even reposed my figures the last time I had her over My family honestly think it's funny that I still buy "toys". My father is convinced that any figure I buy is a pokemon

My dad and brother both collect things as well, and anyone else that's seen my collection has thought it was cool. My dad actually has more things than I do. He mainly collects Marvel and DC stuff, and he has over 9,000!!! comics.

I try to keep my toy collection a secret from friends and family. My friends all think it's weird and my family views it as some kind of mid-mid-life crisis haha. My friends used to give me sh*t about it so I put everything in my closet and put a lock on the door to avoid anyone seeing it. Anytime I tell people how much I spend (which really isn't that much) they always act like I've gone crazy. So now I just keep that info to myself, and the only people I show my collection to are you guys.
