Just like the topic says if it's interesting to you, post it. I decided to post this today in honor of my grandparents 63rd anniversary. Since I know very little about my grandma's past, I'll stick with grandpa. This may be long but it's a very interesting, shortened life story. When my grandpa was around 8 years old, he was on his way to 4H. It's about like cub scouts with more tractors involved. On his trip there he was run over and left for dead by a semi hauling logs. Luckily someone spotted him in a ditch and brought him home. He woke up 3 days later in his bed. The doctors said it was a 50/50 chance to live. Since this happened in the 20s he got a huge cash settlement of $100! Later in life he was a football player for the Evansville Ace's. He was the team captain and won the Refrigerator Bowl 1948 and 1949. The Refrigerator Bowl was the equivalent of the Rose Bowl today. He is an all American 49er. From what I can gather he wasn't just a football player. Bear Bryant said "I don't know about those Evansville kids but I'd sure like to get that Gerhardt". He was the coach for Alabama. He was a good baseball player in college. He left his wife for short periods of time to play minor league baseball. Go figure, he was called up by the top team to play major league baseball. My grandma was pregnant with my uncle. Since he didn't want to be missing his kids childhood, he turned this amazing offer down. The team was St. Louis! Bob is turning 90 in October. He has a very successful life. The number one sport for him now is driving mowers. He walks with a cain but when he gets on a mower he can go anywhere. 89 years old and still mowing 18 acres a week. I'm sorry, I originally gave the years 38 and 39, incorrect. Not exactly sure on what mlf team he was called for. I'll have to ask him what reason he had for turning that one down. He opted for the army before college. This is what I get for going off what I thought the story was.

I'm 27, and it's hard to believe that my Great-Grandfather is still alive. He's about 95 or so and in good health. It's surprising considering that he was in World War II and had his hand blown off by a bomb. They re-attached it. I'm not really sure where he served since he never talks about his time spent in the war.
I'm currently pregnant, so when my daughter is born in a month, she will be his Great-Great Granddaughter. Definitely want pics of those two when she's born.

I agree, and I would, but my grandmother (Great Grandfather's daughter) is gone. She drank herself to death, unfortunately, and my mom will probably eventually do the same. I might be able to get my great aunt to sit in for my grandmother though (she's my grandma's sister), or have my mom hold a picture of my grandmother.

Still 4 generations of the family. I liked the second part of your post. I'm sorry to hear that. 95 and kicking what's the secret?

I honestly wish I knew. But then again, I don't know if I'd want to live that long. By that time, not only are most your friends gone, but their kids are beginning to reach that ripe age and starting to pass away too.
Speaking of which, it's odd really. I believe my Great Grandfather's brother and sister are both still alive as well (and in good health as far as I know), although I think he's the oldest of the siblings. I'm not really sure of how many siblings he had and if any of them are gone. He's not a health nut, but he stays active. He goes for walks and still does work around the house and yard. He doesn't own any pets, but my great-uncle lives with him (his son). His house is also spotless. My Great grandmother (his wife) went in for triple bypass surgery about 12 or so years ago, and never left the hospital. She had a stroke after her surgery and ended up passing away a month or two later. She was quite healthy as well, but she was too old to recover from major surgery. As far as I know, the only health problem my great grandfather has is that his blood pressure is a bit high. He takes pills for it.
Yea, my family has a history of drinking. My grandmother was a heavy drinker and died in her mid-fifties (about fifteen years ago or so), and my mom is no different. Both of them were gorgeous when they were young. The alcohol just made both of them waste away.
Who's the oldest member in your family?

That's pretty incredible, both of you. And congrats, KR, on the soon-to-be birth of your baby. TheCollector What MLB team did your granddad almost play for? I'm sure I've already once mentioned I have royal blood, with relations to Czar Nicholas II, the former king of Russia in the early 1900s and his cousin was King George V of the UK, so I'm related to him too. Deeper into my ancestry, one of my ancestors shot the first shot at the Battle of Bunker Hill in 1775, during the Revolutionary War. That could be a rumor, but apparently the story was passed down from generation to generation. No reason not to believe it. Someday, I really want to do my geneology.

The only thing I know, is that I have mostly Irish and English ancestry. I don't think any of my ancestors were historically significant. I've never been much of a family person, so I don't really have much to say.

Adrenaline, I'll have to ask my grandpa or dad today. I've heard the team names atleast 10 times and I still don't remember. Lol Probably best if I go through the stories with them. (will edit to original post) That's a very close relation to royalty. Funny story? about how I'm related to the Irish royal family. Had some relitives do "favors" for the king. Women to man "favors". For this we "earned" part of the royal crest in a family crest. They used lead based makeup and died of lead based makeup. (painted white faces, makeup in general) Lead used to be used for everything. Who knows VR if you do genealogy you may be next in line for a throne.

My father traced out our genealogy about as far back as he could, I'm pretty sure we're just peasants

Yeah, Tsars and Czars are the same thing. They're just different spellings of the Russian monarch. TheCollector St.Louis Browns.
