Hachette is a company that made a single line of amazing looking manga-colored figures in 2007/2008 for the French market. They were called...
Dragon Ball Le Manga de Légende
The figures are typically between 2.5 and 4 inches tall including the stands. Some characters are a little smaller, some a little larger. The figures look a lot like Bandai's Soul of Hyper Figuration figures, however, they are bigger, and are closer in size with Bandai's HG gashapons. Some of the Hachette figures actually scale well with HG Gashapon collections. I believe these figures were produced to support to re-release of the Dragon Ball manga in France, but I am not positive.
These figures were sold by subscription like we do magazines in the United States and included a booklet of reading material with snippets from the DB/DBZ Manga, games, and quizzes. Almost every figure had another issue of the booklet included with the figure.
The first shipment, SS Goku with issue 1, was € 1.50 (which is $2.01 at the time I am writing this in the year 2013).
The second shipment was Vegeta with issue 2 for 4.99 Euro ($6.68) with Piccolo, issue 3, the Toriyama Ro-bo figure, and the Shenron keychain included as free gifts.
The third shipment was Shenron and he was free (but I don't think he came with any issues to read).
From then on, people would receive two figures and issues per month at the price of 7.99 Euro ($10.69) each figure/issue, so € 15.98 ($21.38) per month.
Only 1 person per household could subscribe, and the total cost to collect all 50 numbered figures/issue + free Shenron keychain + free Tori-bot figure + free Shenron figure would have been € 382.02 ($511.18 in 2013 currency conversion prices).
To give you a more appropriate view of how much these actually cost from an American perspective... currency conversion rates actually fluctuate every minute, day, week, month, etc. However, here is a random sample. In 2008, the Euro was worth more compared to the US dollar than any other time in the last 10 years. It topped out at being worth $1.60. So in 2008, if we consider 1 Euro to be worth $1.57, and in 2013, 1 Euro is worth $1.34 (what it is worth the day I am writing this).... With that difference, an entire set, in US dollars would have cost you $598.92 over that 50-week period, plus you'd have to have a friend in France to receive them and then ship them to you! That averages out to $11.52 per figure, 52 figures (I'm not counting the keychain in my math resulting in $11.52 per figure).
