Does anyone else think this movie is going to suck or is it just me? I hold Star Wars dear to my heart. It's something that I grew up with. Before I had ever heard of Dragon Ball Z, there was Star Wars, and I had HUNDREDS of related items. All the action figures, lightsabers, and collectibles. I was all about it as a kid. Granted, The Phantom Menace was HORRIBLE, for many reasons, and Attack of the Clones wasn't much better, but as a kid I still loved them. Revenge of the Sith was actually pretty cool in my opinion, but I'm more of a fan of the classic trilogy.
However, this continuation doesn't sit right with me. The fact that another director is in charge doesn't bother me. He did well with Star Trek. What bothers me is the story is about the life and death of Anakin Skywalker. Period. Granted, there's hundreds upon hundreds of books, some of which I've read and enjoyed, that go far beyond that. Non-canon that those books are, many of them are still very entertaining. Such as the Darth Bane series set thousands of years before the events of Phantom Menace. Then there are the books and comics that expand after the death of Darth Vader, and go on with Luke's marriage to Mara Jade and his children, along with Han and Leah's children. But this movie doesn't seem to be following that idea at all. If they are, well, Luke is going to be like 70 in this movie, so are they just going to show Mara Jade as an old hag? Come on she was a BADASS in her prime!
The teaser trailor shows one of the new actors in a Stormtrooper suit and I assume he's one of the rebels. So they're doing that again... a good guy dressing up as a storm trooper. This new Sith guy looks pretty dull, and what's up with that stupid-ass lightsaber design? I get that it's supposed to resemble a battle sword like Link's, or Trunks's, but it doesn't make much sense. There are hilts poking out at the sides that could just be chopped off by someone. It would make more sense if they were kind of diagonal to stop another saber from slicing downward. The new stormtroopers look cool, but really what's the point of expanding on the Empire? Didn't the Empire die with Vader and Palpitine? (not including the non-canon books with that logic of course.)
I'm not going to try to judge this movie from just a one minute teaser, but all I'm saying is, J.J. Abrams, if you F*CK this up, you'll forever be known as JAR JAR ABRAMS.
I don't know... I've got a bad feeling about this.
