I figured we needed a thread for the Funko Pop Vinyl pieces as it's a phenomenon now. I had emailed the company long before they pumped out that set featuring Frieza, Vegeta, Cell, Piccolo, and Goku, but they seem to have limited their selection to the main cast as always. I think the Star Wars Funko Series is the most in-depth with all the supporting characters getting pieces. As of yet, since they haven't made any official pieces, I was wondering if everyone wanted to share their custom Funko Pop Vinyl Dragon Ball Z stuff here! I was able to find a few pics online of some! I think these are made by Ki_Customs! I think this one's by chromelotusfineart! The following is by seller deathmetalbatman! And now, since they haven't been made yet, I've been thinking to make my top two favorites, Zarbon & Dodoria. For their base, I'm going to need to kitbash the following: Airbrush, a set of five different colors: light blue, dark blue, pink, dark green, and brown. Zarbon1. Vegeta Pop for the scouter and shoulder + chest armor 2. Elsa Pop for the hair-braid 3. Additional minor details like jewelry can be added using sculpting Dodoria1. Vegeta Pop for the scouter and shoulder + chest armor 2. Spikor Pop for the head-sculpt. 3. Additional minor details like arm spikes can be added using sculpting Everyone feel free to share your custom Pops here! the aforementioned is my current project but I'm interested to hear from everyone else and their projects related to the Funko Pop pieces!

I realize there's a few differences I forgot to mention. There's two separate types of airbrush paint apparently... Opaque and TransparentI know the major difference is that Opaque paint doesn't change no matter how many layers are applied and that Transparent can be used to alter the color to make it darker depending how many layers are added. I don't know which to use; which is better suited for this project. I don't know which of these would work best for these Funko POP DIY pieces. I picked up the Badger Spray Gun set: Attachment DeletedBut I don't know which style of colors to get; transparent or opaque. I know I will be needing the following shades of each set of colors for Zarbon: 1. Light Blue [Turquoise, Celeste] (skin) 2. Dark Green [Forest, Dark] (hair) 3. Light Pink [Hot Pink, Deep Pink] (armbands + earrings) 4. Dark Blue [Navy, Medium] (legbands + pants) 5. Dark Brown [Russet, Burnt Umber, Chestnut] (armor + shoes) 6. Dark Yellow [Gold, Cyber] (eyes + hairband) 7. Light Blue [Powder, Munsell, Pigment] (cape + scouter) I believe that's it.

I don't think you need airbrush for those figures, airbrush usually for blending colors. Just make sure you retard/thin the paint enough to eliminate brushstrokes on large surface.
You don't need transparent paints. Just solid paints.

I was told not to use any paint other than airbrush as it won't smudge and it does a precise job. I checked out some youtube videos to see what others said and they all used airbrush with blue tape for not crossing into unwanted areas.

Either can work. Airbrushing is just less convenient IMO. Anyway, looking forward to see what you can do. I am not a fan of the Pop series but it would be cool to see a better Buu, a Dabura, a Tien, Krillin, Yamcha, and especially Chiaotzu.

Attachment DeletedHere's the basic pre-build I made in art format for the Zarbon Funko Pop Custom Vinyl. This is the basis to follow for the finished piece. Now working for the actual end result.

Someone should make Gure, Tarble's wife. She already looks like a Funko.

Okay, I have the finished base. Also looking to make the box mockup for the figure. Not that I didn't think you could do it or anything, but that came out WAY better than I was expecting. That looks awesome!

Looks awesome dude! I collect Pops as well, and it seems like something that would be officially released! Really good job!
