The government will tax how much internet you use, eBay, Amazon, everything. FREE SPEACH IS ON THE VERGE OF BEING A MYTH! Spread the word to put a stop to this crap! The government is only doing this to make more money. Support free speech! Private messages will be a thing of the past. Don't stand for it.

That's not what is going on, at all. The FCC wants to classify the internet as a "utility" to ensure net neutrality and make sure private ISPs cannot bottleneck or block certain websites and services like netflix, and so they can't charge people and companies extra to use those services and websites. They, also, redefined what broadband internet is to ensure that Americans will get even faster internet at no extra costs, or get ripped off any other way from companies. The things the FCC is in the process of doing are VERY GOOD. In no way will the government "own the internet."
There is a whole lot more to it, but I don't have the time to point out all the ways that post is factually wrong. I highly suggest you read up on net neutrality, classifications and how they pertain to the internet, and look at the actual things the FCC will be deciding on.

Classifying the internet as a "utility" gives EVERY American the right to the internet, like water, and you can not have your internet usage dictated by companies just because you can't pay a ton. The US has the slowest internet among first world countries, because up until now private corporations have dictated its use and availability. This is a step to fixing that.
This video is a quick summary of the issue. WARNING, it has some strong language in parts because Time Warner is such a headache and sometimes you just have to say "F--- you, Time Warner!"

*sigh*...I wasn't going to say anything but biased tabloids do nothing but needlessly complicate issues. Daily Caller is especially guilty of this. Nothing but respect for you Toadkart, just...the Daily Caller makes my skin crawl.

The daily caller is a conservative, republican news website. It's pretty hardcore biased, especially against anything that Obama is involved in. Republicans are very connected to the same companies that want to get rid of net neutrality and dictate your internet usage and charge you and businesses even more for internet usage. I wouldn't trust them to get good, unbiased news coverage.
Honestly, just look at the people supporting net neutrality. The overwhelming amount of support from people in the tech world, and the reasoning is pretty clear.

Please, look at intelligent non-biased sources of news. And, actually read the specific things that Republicans are complaining about. www.theverge.com/2014/11/10/7185933/fcc-should-reclassify-internet-as-utility-obama-saysThe "regulations" people are getting so crazy about are regulations for the COMPANIES that are currently in control of the internet. They are regulations in the favour of the normal citizens and regular internet users.

I'm not a Republican, just anti-government.

An example of one the "bad regulations" that Republicans and the ISP companies are talking about is the decision to change the legal definition of broadband internet from 4mbs-down/1mbs-up to 25mbs-down/3mbs-up. That forces companies to provide that higher speed to customers no matter what. Instead of charging customers out the rear for internet speeds that almost all other first world countries provide as normal internet speed.
Companies are basing internet speeds and usage statistics on outdated studies and surveys from 1996. It's that STUPID and GREEDY way of thinking that has made it so the US has some of the WORST internet speeds in the world among other first world countries.
These "bad regulations" will force ISP companies to treat their customers with respect, and force them to change outdated business practices so they will get with the times and catch up with the rest of the world and technology.
But, if you would rather have your internet usage dictated and controlled by old businessmen in suits who only care about squeezing money out of you...well, I feel really sorry for you.

And, just to be clear, Ajit Pai is a raging Republican. If you read his statement, actually read it, a lot of his negatives all pertain to giving customers more power over the ISP COMPANIES. The government being able to tell Time Warner that they can't charge you for tiered internet is GOOD.
The ability to sue your ISP company over unfair rates is GOOD. In a lot of places, only one single ISP is available. In those regions, the company can charge whatever they want, because there is no other alternative for citizens. Giving the customer the ability to sue, because the ISP jacked up their rates, compared to other normal rates in the US, is GOOD.
He talks about "rate regulations" but he never mentions that the regulations that are actually proposed would LOWER RATES for a significant amount of the country, and people. It would NOT ALLOW extra rate charges just because you want to stream netflix, or play one video game console over another. The regulations are for the companies that have bern ripping us off for years.

Yeah, because that totally doesn't describe the government. Don't believe for a second that they have our best interests at heart.

Being anti-government regardless of the issues, or the repercussions, is incredibly ignorant. You say you aren't Republican, but all you are doing is posting incredibly biased Republican outrage and misinformation.
I'm done. No use banging your head against a wall. Especially, when your secondary argument is that the government is evil and out to get you.
Also, for the original poster, Anonymous has actually shown support of Obama and net neutrality and has been speaking out against the Republicans that are opposing it...

So you would hand the keys to the internet to the U.S. government? That's really the argument. This isn't based on a government party. It's based on free speech being in jeopardy. Sure do one or two things that are positive. What happens when they already have control? I'll tell you, no debate on new policies.
