Posted on DBT May 21, 2003: Now with JAKKS Pacific in the picture, a new cooperative company has formed called Giant Ape. This is the new FUNimation/JAKKS Pacific version of IF Labs. I got word of this here at the Z Store when ordering our new figures. Giant Ape… weird.

Giant Ape (Jakks) re-released the IF Labs series 2 figures. They carried the Giant Ape logo but are in the same style of box. The figures were painted by airbrush just like all the other Jakks figures, so there was a lack of detail in a way, but the details they did include were much clearer than the IF Labs versions; for example, the eyes on Yamcha were much better painted, but he lacked variation in the color on his clothes. Besides the lack of texture detail, some of the figures were missing a little paint or had paint mistakes. The Launch figure I looked at in October 2003 was missing some green paint on her shirt and the Goku had a black/gray blotch on his eye, so try to find the best figure if you are really picky.
