I was never going to say this but I think the Figure-Rise kits are awful. I can't understate my disappointment with them, partly because they're produced by Bandai, which is (as far as I know) the model kit company. Compare the Dragon Ball kits to any other Bandai kit and the difference in quality is undeniable. For example...take a look at this stunning Stormtrooper kit, also produced by Bandai. It honestly looks like it was ripped directly from a Star Wars film. Gundam model kits also consistently have superb quality. I'm blown away by almost every Gundam model kit I see and the only reason I don't collect the Gundam kits is because I know I would spend way too much money on them. I can't say the same for the DB kits. Compare this to the DoD Android 18 which has an amazing face sculpt. I mostly hate the DB kits because they could be better than the Figuarts figures. Bandai model kits are typically superb recreations. To me, the DB kits are interpretations at best. Coming from Bandai, I expected so much more.

I'm honestly not sure why you're comparing these characters to Stormtroopers or Gundams. Using other anime character model kits would be a much better comparison. I'm also not sure why you're comparing a $25/30 1/12 model kit facial sculpting to a $70 1/6 figure sculpting. I could be mistaken but your expectations for these model kits are at a point where they would never be met.

I referenced the Stormtrooper as it's a perfect example of an affordable model kit that looks amazing and isn't hampered by model kit engineering. I can't help but compare it to the DB model kits since they look off from top to bottom (bad sculpts, odd proportions - i.e., they seem more like interpretations). It's odd that I'm able to say even gashapons look better than the model kits.

Stormtroopers have no cloth or faces that express emotion and are made of solid pieces of armor. It's a basic sculpt. If you had other anime character model kits that showed the transitioning between design to model kit engineering, it would be more understandable.
Model kits production take apart the design of the character. Little solid figures don't.

well, that just isn't true, especially when factoring in model kit engineering. Disregarding the digital design aspect, making an accurate Stormtrooper would be ten times harder than making an accurate DBZ figure from scratch. well, since you insist...the faces aren't perfect but overall, this is a much better recreation than the standard Figure-Rise kits... which could have been incredible, but aren't. Even without paint, the MG Goku looks great. No amount of paint can improve the lazy sculpts that the standard FR kits have. Edit, all I'm saying is the Figure Rise kits could have/should have been better.

I typed soooooooo much and deleted it all lol Yeah, the sculpts could have been better. I wonder If Storm Collectibles made DBZ figures, how would they look. I mean just check out this figure, all you Mortal Kombat players would know about him, And here's yet another pic of FRS Broly without his nipples. Still a very cool looking figure.

How I feel when people say the Figurerise sculpts are better than the Figuarts For real though, it’s a decent enough line. Not for me personally since they are a larger scale for my Figuarts collection. I can understand that some might gravitate towards this line since they’re cheaper but for the cheaper price you’re getting a cheaper product. The articulation is pretty good and similar to Figuarts but obviously being a model kit, the quality is worse overall in regards to plastic and overall build. Also it has to be built. I think the face sculpts are atrocious and don’t hold a candle to Figuarts but it seems unfair to compare the two lines. They are different scales at different price points and are of a different type of figure, model kit vs premium articulated action figure.

I’m not big on the Figure-rise line but this Piccolo could turn out awesome if it’s done right. The scale would fit in well with the Figuarts since the Figure-rise line is larger to begin with. Even when Tamashii does their eventual Piccolo 2.0 I doubt the scale would be right

So I was right on those two mysterious figures shown previously being a paired release. Excited to see how these will look.

I'm guessing Piccolo is going to come with an alternate SSJ head for the previously released SSJ2 Gohan, the way Broly is coming with alternate faces for SSJ Goku and Vegeta

Dammit. It would have been so cool to get a separate Gohan figure with that hair and a articulated cape(I'm guessing Piccolo will come with one). Figure rise Gohan is cool, I like that figure, especially the hair sculpt, they've captured the wild style look much better than Figuarts.

I'm guessing Piccolo is going to come with an alternate SSJ head for the previously released SSJ2 Gohan, the way Broly is coming with alternate faces for SSJ Goku and Vegeta It's certainly possible, but I'm going to guess Broly is the exception here because of his size and cost. Traditionally the kits are released in pairs, but Broly appears to be a solo release. Piccolo and Gohan are back to the regular sized model kits. I'd say they will be two separate releases. They will probably re-use the SS2 Gohan body, but give him a new head, and maybe even include the should pads / cape he wore, it would make sense if they do it for the Piccolo release, all they'd have to do is make minor adjustments and scale the size down.
