This crap makes no sense. It keeps selling out and then I go back and check and there's one left. And why would he list them for half their market value? Everyone else has them listed for $100+
I think I've been taken for a ride.

From Hong Kong? I would assume bootleg, just as bad as coming from China.
The pictures advertising it have the correct stickers, but I would be wary. If a deal is too good to be true, it probably is.

He has sold 16 so far since August 16. And I'm one of those buyers. Either way, I have eBay and PayPal buyer protection, but it still sucks to have to go through the whole ordeal, especially since eBay doesn't let you open a case until the "estimated" time of delivery has completed. And it's usually months after you purchased it.

Common thing some sellers do is advertise it as a legit figuarts or Bandai official. By the time the figures ship they change up the store page and change the details. Ebay keeps a cached copy of the original page so you don't have to worry too much but still most of the time these listings are completely fake and made to entice people to give them their money.
Key is don't buy from low rep sellers or people who aren't posting realistic photos. All promo photos, low rep, vague details, is what you want to stay away from.

Thanks.
The seller hasn't shipped it yet, so I just requested an informal cancellation and refund.
Do you think I should contact ebay and see if they can help me cancel it?

I got refunded, but only after threatening him with negative feedback in order to warn other potential buyers. I asked him several times if he could provide proof that he has these items in stock. I also told him hat if he added a photograph of his full stock that he would sell them all in one day, but he just kept stalling me until he refunded me.
I don't even know what to think right now, to be honest.

Yup.
I basically caught him in this last exchange we had. I told him that if he showed me proof that he actually had these items in stock that I would buy the rest of it (and I really would've) but then he tells me that he doesn't actually have them in stock. That he orders them from his "supplier" as the orders come in.
And then I asked him, well then, "how do you know if these are indeed authentic if you don't actually have them in hand." And he answered me, because "I checked the figure before I list them on ebay."
LOL... *shaking my head*
And he admitted that he also listed No. 18 but due to seller limits that he can't sell them under the same account.
Either way, I reported both of the listings as fraudulent.

Both listings are still up and they're selling like hot cakes.
I can't help but wonder if I passed up a good opportunity.

Don't dwell on this, if you ordered it, the chances of it being authentic are pretty much nonexistent as your exchanges prove pretty well. It's coming from HK as well which is just as bad as coming from China for being a knock off. If you really want to prove it to yourself, waste $60 on it.

I never buy anything from Hong Kong, Japan, China, Indonesia, etc. The prices are always too good to be true. You can't take a chance. It's not worth it because if it's fake (which it is) then getting a refund and sending it back is such a hassle.

They generally don't have bootlegs for most things.

The chance of a Japanese merchant selling a bootleg figure is slim to none...
