I discovered Devilman around a year ago and it quickly became one of my favourites, not only does it have awesome figures and creatures but its got a really good plot
(to be clear, i am not talking about the cheesy Blue/green Devilman, i mean the full on blood and guts one)

I just watched Amon - Apocalypse of Devilman. Very cool. Going to have to check out some more of that. Can't believe it's been around since 1972. Only version we can get on DVD here in Australia is the live action version which by all accounts sucks big time. Pretty much like all live action movies based on manga series.

So definitely give the live action a miss then? it still worth the watch, the fights were pretty cool at teh very least and for $10 shipped from ebay you cant really complain also, very little of the Devilman merch and dvds were released worldwide at all, let alone created. there is no full anime for deviman, just bits and pieces at various points in the manga, a crappy sentai-ish blue version and other Anime by Go-Nagai that either continue where devilman ends or include him as a cameo (Cutie honey gives him the best cameo by far though Mazinger does it ok [blue devilman however for that]) |

I think I might download the 3 OVAs to start with. Funny thing is I used to see the first one on VHS all the time but never picked it up.

I lucked out and found the DVD in a bin at the fleamarket marked 4 for $10, grabbed it and a few other awesome dvds I am a HUGE collector of rare/obscure Movies (usually cartoon) and i have some movies that even google doesn't know exists and some that even if it does there is little info on said disc |

Only DVD I can find with the first 2 OVAs for a decent price is on eBay and the guy says it is in good condition. I hate buying used DVDs though cause you never know if it is going to be all scratched up to hell.

Devilman isnt that easy to come by ATM either, and the OVA disc is the one i bought very good, very violent and gory |

Well I have to say that Apocalypse definitely caught my attention. Fits in beautifully with what I like my anime movies to be  How good was the English dub from the DVD? Also if it is not too much trouble could you look and see what region the DVD is. They guy on eBay says it can run in a Region 4 Player. |

They guy on eBay says it can run in a Region 4 Player. the dub is passable, its not perfect and some voices are bland but i liked it. the dubs dialogue is also more gritty (coarse) than the sub such as making Ryo act more like a punk/rebel/prick and dvd doesnt have any region encoding labelled, its one of the earlier DVD that didnt say so it shouldnt be region locked at all i would think |
