So many of you will have heard that DBS is due to end it's Japanese airing in March and in all likelihood it won't return for at least 1-2 years. So what does this mean for merchandise collectors, and with it not airing in Japan, can we expect a slow down in production of figures. Well the short answer is, no, but expect more exclusives. The SHF line was founded on the return of Z in the form of Kai. 5 Months after Z's return was announced we were greeted with the first unpainted prototype of Piccolo, which ultimately became Tamashiis first release in 2009, following on from the poorly received "Super Warrior" line back in 2003. It was a slow start and by the time Kai ended in 2011, only Piccolo, Goku & Gohan had been released. With the reduced demand domestically, but increased interest from the international market, Tamashii took distribution into their own hands and partnered up with American and European distributors. From 2011's SSJ Vegeta onwards, the figures became webshop exclusives. In 2012 and 2013 (following DBs airing being replaced by Toriko in Japan) a total of 6 webshop exclusives were released. This pattern continued until 2015, when Dragon Ball Super began its airing, which significantly raised the profile of the franchise, and for the first time since 2010, Tamashii gave Japan a regular release in the form of Warrior Awakening Goku. Since then we've seen 12 more regular releases sold in retail stores across Japan, and there is little doubt in my mind that the sales for the most part were driven by the popularity of Super. With Super ending, that profile can be expect to decline, and as a result the number of figures hitting retail stores will reduce. The good news is that the past 2 years have given us some of the most wanted figures, and 2018 looks set to continue. Only time will tell what the future holds, but don't be surprised if 2019 is consists of exclusives only. Happy collecting!!

I literally haven't watched an episode of super, only care for the dubs. Kai lacked the emotion of z so pretty much my collecting is collecting from memories of z and rewatching it lol. For me personally it won't change anything cuz im waiting for them to get more caught up on the dubs for super. But i hope distribution and things wont become significantly less here in the states.

low sales is what will end the figuarts line. when it starts dwindling down and people lose interest in the figures itself then thats what is going to be the end of this line. besides funimation is not even half-way running DBS so theres still that

I think it can affect. but not sure how much. I've never seen this much of DB figures getting a release (not only SH Figuarts), and coincidentally (or not) that started with DB super airing on TV.
Anyway, there's still a big field to be explored on the SH Figuarts line. The biggest threat for this line is a brand new line with a lot of upgrades (remembering that the line is already 8 years old). But I expect that doesn't happen soon, since we have a new breath with 2.0 articulation, and almost a monthly release pace.
Long life to SH Figuarts!

Agree with above, on top of never seeing dragon ball in U.S. retail stores to this magnitude (toys r us and various other retailers) plus the movie coming out later this year, the main theories i have read are that dbs will go on hiatus and either a new series will start next year or a continuation of super will start up again next year after the movie drops. The break would be more or less to build hype. Thats what i see alot of people saying and thats what i hope is true lol.

Tbh, I'm less worried about the end of Super, and more about Tamashii running out of marketable characters to produce figures for.
I mean they've done most conceivable "Z" characters at least once now, and with the new Dragon Ball series, they're now widening their reach, but how far will they go?
I mean, how often do you see merchandise for any of the other characters?
Oolong? Puar? Pilaf? Launch? Chichi? Ox King? Baba? Tao? Korin? King Piccolo? Kami? Popo?
Raditz? Dodoria? Zarbon? Ginyu? Nail? Guru? Porunga? Android 19? Android 20? Mr. Satan? Cell Jr?
Kid Goten? Kid Trunks? Videl? Babidi? Shin? Kibto? Dabura?

First, Bardock Raditz Super Buu. Second, I'm still not sure this is the end... It's not like Dragonball Super has significantly lost popularity or anything, and we're getting movie 20 before too long.
I see this as being an extended hiatus, with the movie setting up the mood and tone of the series going forward. Toei will likely take the opportunity to regroup, maybe get some episodes ready before rushing into a series announcement this time so they aren't killing themselves. They might go so far as to rebrand it as a "new" series, but it'll still be new Dragonball content from the same people.

I doubt it. They already said the series would continue, and I doubt they meant the franhise as a whole since that would just be a stupid and redundant statement to make. It's definitely either a hiatus or a new series will be made soon after the movie comes out. What WILL kill this line is them never moving forward and just rehashing Goku/Vegeta/Trunks, couple that with the laziness they've fallen into with paint and accessories and it'll probably die.

Super dubbed is on episode 47 on Toonami. If you've only been exposed to the terrible/inaccurate script of the 90's thought you probably won't enjoy or understand it, though.

i dont think it can affect it at all for some reasons : 1-Dragon Ball super is not so popular. The audiences of the anime are not good and its worst every weeks on japanese tv. The last volume was sold around 300 000 copies. Looks liek it's a lot but not really, it's DRAGON BALL it should be more than 1 million (for exemple the first volume of boruto was sold around 1million, DBS like 30K for the first week..lol The last DVD/Blueray was sold in Japan around.... 1200 copies the first week lol !! 2-Actually we got like more than 50 sh figuarts and only one is from DBS : Goku Black, Goku Blue, Vejita Blue, Beerus, Whis and Golden Freeza are not "new" character of DBS,we saw them in two last "Z" movies so.. and honestly which characters of DBS need a figure ? Jiren ? Toppo ? Bergamo ? lol Same for the last video game : Dragon Ball Fighter Z, not fighter Super For me DBS was a big mistake, the story was not good, quality of anime was not good, and we didnt get from it any interesting or charismatic characters I'm happy DBS is almost over and don"t forget guys, even if DBS is over, we are waiting for a new movie end of this year so i'm really sure we will get some figuarts of Dragon Ball in the future

What? Dragon Ball Super is popular as hell. It does crazy in merchandising and episode 109 and 110 straight up broke the internet. Low TV ratings are pretty much because people don’t watch TV as much as they used to. Also Beerus/Whis/Blue/Golden Freeza are marketed as Super characters, even on the figuarts box.
“FighterZ” is just a stylistic choice and that argument has already been debunked, there’s Super content in that game. You may not like it but it sells like crazy.

First Dragon Ball SH Figuarts are marketed "DBKAI" doesnt means their first apparition are from DBKAI.. it was just the "last anime" at this time so its same for Goku/beerus/Vejita/Whis in their actual outfit (in DBS) they are marketed DBS because you can see them like that in DBS Dragon Ball islike Star Wars, a popular license, so yes anything (figures especially) about dragon will have success (Z, Kai, GT, Super, Xenoverse, Heroes ect..) DBS content in DBfighters Z is about...two alternative skins fo vejita and goku and zamasu/black goku if i remember.
for tv ratings well.. why other anime like Doraemon, Detective Conan, One Piece or Sazae san don't have "low" ratings ? or getting low every weeks ? just dragon ball super is like that
and I didnt talk only about tv ratings but manga, dvd/bluerays ect.. so even if they dont watch tv for DBS, why people dont care about dvds or manga ? for exemple like i said in my first post DBS volume 4 was sold at less than 300 000 copies, it's not bad, but it's really not good (I compared with Boruto because it was a "next gen" like DBS) what DBS brought to Dragon Ball license honestly ? Goku Black ? Jiren ? Sorry its just my opinion but Jiren is not charismatic at all and GokuBlack/Zamasu is a drama queen with a wtf story... We knows Jiren for what ? one year ? how many figures of him in one year ? 2 or 3 ? lol 131 episodes for what ? how many amazing scenes ? if episode 109/110 was amazing for you, its good but maybe you should watch again Dragon Ball / Z best scenes honestly these episodes "straight up broke the internet", lol everyday, something "straight up broke the internet", it's funny because i think the tv rating of this episode is the lowest in the DBS serie ever.. and it's not because that "straight up broke the internet" means it's good. Some people didnt like it and talk only about it in a negative way Btw i'm not talking about if DBS is good or not (for me its not) but u cant say DBS is a success.. its definitely not, Why Toei stops DBS if the anime is a success ? Dragon Ball Merchandising is a succes, not DBS. Mechandising about Dragon Ball never stopped since the end of the serie in 1995 until now and it's not because DBS is over, the merchandising is over. the next 6 /7 figures we will get only one is from "DBS" : Goku Black and it is one another "goku", not a jiren, zamasu, toppo, bergamo ect... just another goku skin other figures are from DB or DBZ
