Odd that they would call him “Legendary Super Saiyan” when that title belongs to Broly That's pure marketing, I guess. They don't really care if the title means something. Like.. they named the new SS Trunks as "infinite latent super power". They thought that it sounded cool and went ahead with it. But we know it's just a regular SS Trunks with the ponytail.

Isn't it just a call back to the super saiyan form being stuff of legends during the Frieza saga? I thought the anime always mentioned Goku first transforming as the legendary super saiyan even though that title had a whole different meaning when Broly came.

Yep, back in the time where there was only the "regular" SS transformation they called it legendary. I remember Vegeta refers the transformation as legendary SS many times during namek saga. But that was kinda retconned after other transformations emerged, and the transformation wasn't unique anymore. And it came back with OG Broly, since his transformation was one of a kind and they created this whole "legend" stuff again. If I'm not mistaken the canon Broly, from DB Super, received another name for his transformation: it's now SS full power. Yep.. the same name they used for Goku on Cell Saga, when he mastered the regular SS transformation. Honestly I gave up trying to find logic on any of this, lol
