Official Information and Rules. Read All.
Summary:
Scene Stealers is a contest that Dan Hancock (Despotes) started on the original Dragon Ball Toys website over ten years ago.
What it all comes down to is having fun setting up a scene with your DB/Z/GT figures and taking a photo of it. When the contest ends, the voting begins. Similar to Dragon Ball's Tenkaichi Budokai tournaments, your scene fights against others until the final round. Forum members voting in each round determines the winner. The winner of the final round wins the contest. Prizes are undecided as of this moment, so stay tuned for further updates. This is a contest that is NOT endorsed or sponsored by anybody other than the private individuals providing prizes. This contest has nothing to do with Toei Animation, Akira Toriyama, Funimation Productions, or anything else. It's just for fun and sponsored by the members of this forum.
Only DBF members may participate. How do you become a member? Easy. Register on Dragon Ball Figures, and make at least 5 decent posts and you're qualified to enter.
Rules:
1. The scene created needs to be a scene from the manga or anime Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, or Dragon Ball GT. It can be from one of the movies or specials; or even the cross-over special(s).
2. You must provide a picture from the manga or anime that your scene is supposed to look like. Multiple screenshots from the anime may be submitted if the scene (in the anime) is difficult to capture in just one image. Multiple pictures of YOUR scene you create are NOT allowed.
We all recognize the scene with SS2 Gohan having a power struggle with Cell, but not all scenes are as memorable and we need proof that your entry is indeed a real scene!
A screenshot must be provided whether you have to capture it yourself, or you find the picture on the internet. *Instructions for how to take a screenshot are at the very bottom of this!*
3. (The most important rule): You cannot identify your scene stealer entry(s) publicly on the message board before the contest, during the contest, or during the voting. If you do so from this moment forward, you will instantly be disqualified from submitting that entry, and you'll have to think of another idea. DO NOT even say what your ideas are! This contest is NOT a popularity contest, all entries are supposed to be anonymous!
4. Entry must not have ANY digital enhancing (by Photoshop or any other program) to manipulate the scene after the photo has been taken. This includes adding characters, special effects, backgrounds, and anything else intended to enhance the scene beyond what was actually constructed in real life. This does not apply to changes in the levels (brightness) or digitally resizing, cropping, or formatting your image to match the submission guidelines, all of which is encouraged. (You CAN use Photoshop to create the artwork for your background if you want though, but that's only if you create it and then print it or something and it appears in your photo. You can't use Photoshop to ADD IT to your photo.)
5. No in-camera special effects are allowed. The only settings in the camera that can be adjusted are these...
Focus
Shutter Speed
Aperture
Exposure
White Balance
The picture must be taken in color, even if the scene is black and white. The focus and whether or not macro is turned on is of course allowed. You may use the flash if you want.
6. Just like what was stated in rule #1... The scene MUST be a scene directly recreated from Dragon Ball/Z/GT. It can be from one of the movies or specials; or even the cross-over special(s).
7. Scene may NOT have ANY non-DB/Z/GT characters in it unless they are just characters in the background or they appeared in the episode or special! You CANNOT have Goku fighting Spider-Man for example. If you want a pile of dead X-men characters in the background out of focus to represent a bunch of dead people Imperfect Cell killed, that's fine! But you can't have Vegeta fighting Superman or anything like that!
8. The main characters in the scene MUST be individual figures or statues. You cannot use figures or statues that have two or more characters posed together already. That means no Imagination gashapons, almost none of the Megahouse products, and none of the fancy resin statues from Ebay in which there are two or more characters fighting each other. No "scene gashapons" or "scene sculptures" are allowed AT ALL because they are an unfair advantage. Gashapons are allowed, as long as they are individual characters without ANY scenery or background attached.
To put it simply... if it isn't a figure of a single character, you can't use it. If the figure/gashapon/statue is ALREADY a scene, you can't use it.
9. Custom figures (if used) should be new customs (if possible) that have not been posted on DBF or have not been widely known for being yours. The Admins will be seeing the entries, and if we see something that instantly makes your scene recognizable as your scene, we may disqualify it.
10. Photo submitted MUST be at least 1024x768 pixels or 768x1024 pixels at minimum. Photo must be clear, well lit, and only one photo per scene can be submitted. Grainy, blurry, or images that are too small will be rejected. If you are not familiar with resizing images, you may submit images larger than these sizes mentioned and we will re-size them. Winners may be asked to submit a high resolution version of their scene to us, so do not save over your original photo with a smaller version.
11. Up to five (5) scenes per person can be submitted. You can only submit 1 photo per scene. You cannot submit 5 different angles of the same scene or 5 scenes that are barely any different from each other.
12. As stated in rule #2... You must include a screenshot from the anime or a picture from the manga with each entry. Multiple screenshots from the anime are allowed, because these can be helpful in determining how accurate your scene is. This picture(s) will be posted above/below/or next to your entry to show that it is indeed inspired by and related to something that really happened in the series. There are no specific guidelines concerning size. The size of a YouTube video window or bigger is best. Instructions for taking a screenshot can be found at the bottom of the rules.
13. If you want to enter the contest with a scene, or multiple scenes, you need to provide at least 1 prize valued at $10 or more. Ideally, this prize should be Dragon Ball related. If you don't have extra figures or DB/Z/GT items to offer as a prize, you can offer money as a prize instead. In that case, you need to offer at least $10 USD and be able to send it via PayPal to the winner. Let us know what prize you'll be donating in this topic: dragonballfigures.boards.net/thread/61/prize-donation.
14. The prize you donate will be your responsibility to send to the winner who chooses it. You'll have to be prepared to pay for the shipping to the winner. If your prize is large and/or heavy, you can limit the prize to only being able to be sent to a winner in your own country... provided there are winners in your country. If there are no winners in your country... and the price of shipping to the winner's country exceeds $10 USD... you can ask if the winner will pay the extra amount it will cost to ship them the prize OR ask them if they would accept a substitute prize, which can either be some other item, or money sent by PayPal.
15. You are allowed to enter up to 5 scenes, but you are only required to offer at least 1 prize worth $10 or more. That one donation allows you to enter up to 5 times. This contest really benefits a LOT by having a lot of prizes available. If you have other Dragon Ball items you are willing to donate as prizes, even if they aren't worth very much, please do offer them.
16. If you don't want to participate in the contest, but would like to provide a prize, you can do so. There's no minimum value or USD $ amount required, just let us know here if you'd like to do so. dragonballfigures.boards.net/thread/61/prize-donation.

Number of Winners:
This is dependent on a discussion I'll have with the other Administrators, and based on the number of entries. We plan to have at least 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th but we won't know until we know the exact number of participants and the exact number of prizes.
Timeframe:
Contest starts: NOW!
Contest ends: March 1st, 2014 ← all scenes need to be submitted by the end of this day
Voting starts: March __ , 2014 ← most likely a few days before or on March 8th
How to send us your entries:
Email pictures 1024x768 pixels or 768x1024 pixels at minimum to dbfcontest@gmail.com. You must include your DBF user name in the email (as well as your DBF Contest username if it's different), tell us the prize you're providing (and send a picture of it) if you haven't already done so on the topic about prizes, and you must have at least 5 posts on this message board. There's no benefit to sending your entry(s) really early, so you might want to wait until the deadline date. You may only submit ONE picture per scene. So ONE pic of your scene you made and ONE OR MORE pics of your screenshot(s) from the anime or manga are required per entry. You need to also tell us what is happening in your scene, and maybe even what saga the scene is from. Pretty much everyone here has memorized most of DBZ, but DB and DBGT scenes especially need descriptions of what is going on in the scene.
Who may enter?
Anyone who is a member of dragonballfigures.boards.net/ message board with at least 5 posts who is providing at least 1 prize valued at $10 USD or more. If you want to enter, you absolutely MUST be willing to provide a prize worth at least $10 USD or $10 USD via PayPal to the winner who chooses your money as their prize. Administrators and Moderators may enter as well. We cannot edit the voting, so there's no way of cheating. Remember: You cannot identify your scene, post your scene on this message board, or give hints about which scene is yours. This contest is about voting for the best scenes, it's not a popularity contest.
Advertising:
Advertise this on other DBZ message boards if you are a member of any. We want as many entries as we can get! All people who enter must join this message board however to be considered!
