Yet another reason for me to not even attempt trying to sell on Ebay.
I'll just stick to buying.

Once I sell the lot of bootleg Megahouse figures I am through selling for the foreseeable future.

Not to rain on your parade, but eBay has been charging final value fees since the late 90s. There's nothing new about them like you guys seem to huffing and puffing about . The difference now (from my 30 second read through) seems to be that if you're a d-bag listing your figure for 99 cents and $20 shipping, you're no longer getting lower final value fees than a seller listing at $20.99 and free shipping or $14.99 and $6 shipping. They are leveling the playing field and it's technically more fair, no?

I know they have been charging final value fees for awhile now. Just wanted to let everyone know they are now doing it to the postage costs too.

I know they have been charging final value fees for awhile now. Just wanted to let everyone know they are now doing it to the postage costs too. They were already charging a final value fee on both the item price and shipping, so all they're doing is combining the two into one fee.

why? its easy to workaround. you just increase your shipping value by 10% (which is about what ebay and paypal will take from it)

Yes but also making it more for buyers. Sellers have to increase prices and buyers must increase the price while buyers pay more.

seeing as it has been this way since i started a year ago, it doesnt mean much (escpecially since very few sellers actually increase the shipping price beyond the base before ebay takes the cut)

I feel like I'm a freaking teacher today. Half half . It's not that big of a deal and nothing really new. It's a big deal if you are selling something really expensive though. This isn't something worth bitching about like Obamacare or something though. pages.ebay.com/help/sell/fees.html#BINThe final value fee is 10%. So if you sell something for $140 and free shipping (or $140 total including the shipping), you owe ebay $14. Easy to calculate compared to the BS they used to do. If we use 2010 as an example... web.archive.org/web/20100326034944/http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/fees.htmlIf you sold something for $140 and free shipping (or $140 with the shipping price included), you would have paid $2 as an insertion fee to even list the item for $140, then 8.75% of the first $25, plus 3.5% of the remaining amount. So your final value fee would be $2.19 + $4.03. All fees included, you would have paid $8.22. Back then you couldn't print your postage from home or take advantage of the big discount ebay gives you on printing postage, so you would have paid about $1 more for postage than you have to do now, plus drive to the post office. So all in all, more like $9.22 + gas + time. These examples don't include the commission that paypal takes off your sale. They have always been around 4% I think, so you lose that too. Something else I read said $0.30 transaction fee and 2.9% of the transaction but I don't know if that's right and I don't want to spend all day with a calculator in my hand. Let's pretend it's 4%. If I make an example that's more realistic to what we sell as DBZ figure collectors... TODAY EXAMPLE: You sold a figure for $20 and $3 shipping. Ebay keeps $2.30 and Paypal keeps about $0.83. You lost $3.13, but saved almost $1 on the shipping, and didn't have to physically go to the post office to ship it. 2010 EXAMPLE: You sold a figure for $20 and $3 shipping. Ebay keeps $2.01 and Paypal keeps about $0.84. You lost $2.85 but have to go to the post office and mail it. So I guess if you want to put stuff on ebay, but offer a better deal to DBF members who buy from you direct, you should offer DBF members 9% off your ebay price and you'll earn a tiny bit more money... but still have to drive your ass to the post office unless you buy priority shipping off usps.com. In the example above, if you had the figure listed for $20 and $3 shipping on ebay, 9% less would be $17.93 and $3 shipping, so if you asked $18 + shipping on DBF and got it, you'd earn more money than if you put it on ebay for $20, but you're still going to have to go waste at least $1 in gas going to the post office and at least 15 minutes of your day doing that.

Well it sucks if you're Canadian and buying from Ebay. In the last year they added a bunch of crap to screw over international buyers. Now if I buy something from Ebay if the seller uses Ebay's supposedly better Global Shipping Program I get charged an outrageous shipping price + another outrageous import fee and on top of that they don't let you combine items for shipping multiple items together in one box. So a $10 figure ends up costing me about $50 (no joke)! Screw Ebay's lame policies!

Now THAT I absolutely and totally agree SUCKS!!! You have to opt out of it too from your My Ebay or every listing you list automatically has Global Shipping Program selected.

The Global Shipping Program does suck big time. Also when they get your parcel at the International postage point they open it up to do the customs info. I have had things repacked so bad they were almost broken.
