we all know collecting is a dinamic hobby and to me, almost everything can go for the right price. most of my collection is loose figures but I have also n.o.c figures in the plastic. I can only guess that most of my collection will go someday but I like the loose look. of course I usually not opening a new figure, so how do I know when to open and when to keep in box?

I have a tendency to sell anything I end up with in the package, and use the money to buy the figure loose. I can't bear to open anything that's old anymore.

It all depends on how you collect really, for example you sell anything for the right price so I'd say keep w/e you buy new sealed. When I buy something it's for keeps, so I open that baby up since it's not gonna leave my place unless I need cash.

I like to keep stuff NIB if at all possible. Probably ten years ago, I had about 20 brand new Irwin figures on my wall that I ended up opening. Idk why, just to get my hands on the figures? Anyway, I've regretted it since I went about trying to find most of them new and buy 'em again, then sold most of the loose ones. But they weren't extremely valuable either way. So, I would say, if you like loose figures more, and the ones you want to open aren't particularly valuable, go ahead. I certainly wouldn't open up any Omega Shenron's or King Cold's though, lol.
Sometimes I wonder if I needed to move, needed more space, w/e, should I open most of the cheaper Irwin and Jakks and display them loose, and only keep the 2-packs and SBC stuff in box. But I just love a wall covered in boxes, lol.
