I've been collecting off and on for about 20 years now, it all started with dragonball, I have a normal job, girlfriend, life and I know ill never stop collecting. Id like to hear your stories of how you got started and what it is about collecting that draws you to it, please discuss.

I think the biggest thing in collecting for me is now having the funds to get the kind of figures I could only dream of as a kid. So many awesome lines with incredible pose-ability exist now too. Plus for me being able to complete comic and DVD collections is also very cool.

Right on, yeah having the funds now is definitely an up side. Its also great that these lines that are currently being produced benefit from tech advances in terms of process and materials being used, to the way they're designed and executed. Accurate detail is one thing I'm excited for.

Well the fact that I always tried to collect/hoard stuff as a kid helped lol. First it was toy story stuff, then video game stuff, then different types of money, and now this. Plus the fact that I liked db/z and my rents never let me buty stuff might've helped. In high school I started watching the show again(this time finally understanding what I was watching) and I loved it even more! Then one day at the flea market I found a guy who would sell Irwin/jakks figures and that got me hooked. That led me to finding DBT and well now I'm here lol.

Its great to see ppl that are passionate about dbz still, perpetuating the fandom and encouraging further interest and future releases in collectible media. I hope to pass on my collection to my kids someday, if I have any lol.

I have just been collecting since i was little, but I do it differently than most people, i buy stuff but very rarely do i pay retail, anything i buy i make sure i can sell i for equal or more than what i pay. as well as my collection changes as often as human Skin cells, in one day out the next. i only have like 5 figures that will NEVER leave unless someone was willing to pay a high price

So how I collect is I try to buy only rare items that I absolutely have to have, mostly pertaining to just dbz stuff, yet everything that I've amassed, I don't see myself selling or letting go of unless I haves copies. Even then I think it'd be hard to let go of anything, sort of defeats the purpose of buying it in the first place, strictly my opinion.

I collect in waves too. So many times I have started a collection to then sell it because I found something I wanted to collect more. I feel with the Dragon Ball figures I have finally found a set of figures worth sticking with. Also I like to collect obscure one off figures that come along that I have some interest in which makes for a very eclectic little display. Only problem I have is when my collection begins to outgrow my room and I have to make a decision on what stays on display. That's why my DC figures are currently in storage.

When I was a kid collecting was my main hobby and something that I really identified myself by. Collecting DBZ figures in particular, I fancied myself as a "Dragon Ball/Z/GT action figure collector". I was totally obsessive about it and I found confidence in the fact that I had a collection. I would see or hear about grown up people who have rare art collections or whatever and I would be like, "Yeah, and I have an action figure collection, that's what makes me cool". Also, it gave me a quest to go on. A constant search. When I went to different stores around the city, I was always looking for one thing. When I went out of town, I had a goal. So that's what collecting started as for me. Now days I don't consistently collect figures, only the ones that I like. But as a weekly comic book reader, I definitely collect comics. I bag and board them and everything. I definitely enjoy having a complete collection of runs of certain comics. I love the fact that I have every issue of Grant Morrison's Batman run. My comic collection isn't as much tied to my sense of self identity as my figure collection was, but I definitely see the comics that I have as symbols of my fandom. The comics I have represent the stories that I have read and enjoyed. Also there's just that simple that collecting makes me feel better. Wednesday rolls around. I have a list of comics that I need to gather. My store hands me most of them, but they run out of some, and I search the racks for the ones I'm missing. If there is only one left and it's been tampered with and is really bent or frayed, I go to another store and get it. By the end of the day I have my comics and I literally feel at ease. The chemistry in my brain has changed from when I didn't have them. I'm in a good mood. Sometimes I think of it as a drug. Not in a bad way, but it kind of is. I am pretty addicted to it, and that's okay. It's a healthy thing to be obsessed with. Looking back at my DBZ figure collection, I cherish it and will never part with it because I see it as a record of my childhood and the first thing that I really grabbed a hold of and got into without anybody really leading my that direction. So collecting and collections ultimately, in my view, are materials that represent something else, something more important, about yourself and your life.

When I was younger I used to love going into the city every Sunday to my favourite comic shop to collect my next batch of books from my box. I really miss that but with the price of parking now (it used to be $5 all day on Sundays back in the day) it is cheaper to just order them online. Another thing I love about ordering online now is I have been able to fill gaps in my collection that I never would have been able to back then. I took a bit of a break from comic collecting at the start of 2000 when I went back to college but got back into it over the past few years but pretty much exclusively in trade form this time.

Yeah reading in trade form is a helluva lot easier than buying individuals. That's if you can wait for the release that is lol.
